Green wine bottle necklace

It's been a long time since I posted anything because Christmas got in the way and all three men in the family were coughing and spluttering at Christmas. DH has only just stopped coughing a month later. Last Christmas one of my presents was the book Ornamental Knots for Beaded Jewellery by Susan Millodot and I've been trying out a few of the things in it. This is the Guinevere's knot made in 1mm leather cord. All I had to do was make a set of beads to match.

I decided to make the beads from a green wine bottle and here's the finished piece.

It makes a change from the Italian and German glass I normally use but bottle glass is harder to work because it requires more heat to melt. Because of this it's very difficult to get a decorated bead but it will accept small quantities of other COE (Coefficient of Expansion) glass without cracking. I think I'll try gold leaf on a Harvey's Bristol cream bottle beads next. I know that the blue glass of the Bombay Sapphire gin bottles will accept silver wire decoration but silver leaf just makes the surface of the bead look grey.
